Cornwall council agreed to maintain the city’s current entry-level Bird Friendly City certification last week, and complete any necessary actions to reapply for the certification come 2027.

In order to maintain its certification through the Nature Canada program , the city must continue its current efforts toward bird-friendly threat reduction, habitat protection, and community engagement. As detailed in a report to council , the city must also develop and implement a light-pollution strategy that will aim to minimize disruption to bird migration and behaviour; implement bird-friendly window tape on municipal buildings and bus shelters; and, formalize any existing policies that would preserve dead or dying trees in areas where public safety is not compromised.
