The Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal, two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday night in Shenandoah County.
The crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Interstate 81 northbound at the 279-mile marker, according to a police news release.
A 2024 Ford Explorer traveling northbound in the left lane on I-81 ran into a 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer that had stopped for traffic, the release states. Traffic had stopped for a vehicle fire at the 283-mile marker. After the collision, the Explorer spun across the right lane and ended up in the area between the interstate and the nearby on-ramp, the release states.
The driver of the Explorer was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency responders flew the driver to an area hospital where the driver was later pronounced deceased. Police
