TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - City and county leaders unveiled four statues Wednesday to honor Tuscaloosa natives who died in the 1970 Marshall University plane crash.
The crash in November 1970 in West Virginia killed four Tuscaloosa men: Freddy Clay Wilson, Larry Sanders, Joe Lee Hood and Robert James VanHorn.
“This is a very emotional day, very appropriate day, and a very inspiring day because I believe their legacy is going to live on in future generations of young people in West Tuscaloosa,” said Walt Maddox.
Family members attended the ceremony.
“Great experience. Long time coming for these statues so kind of emotional for the family. But it’s good to see that they finally got the statues up,” said Debra Lewis.
The statues are now on display at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA in Tuscal
