GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - The South Carolina State Guard is leading food distribution efforts at Harvest Hope Food Bank in Greenville to support families affected by the federal government shutdown and delayed SNAP benefits.
When the food pantry opened at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, cars lined up around the building, highlighting the significant impact on residents in South Carolina.
"We have 12 individuals that have been integrated into the Harvest [Hope] Food Bank process here, that are assisting," said BG William Hollingsworth, deputy commander of the SC State Guard.
The state government office is working at both the Greenville and Columbia food distribution centers, providing assistance in packing boxes, preparing food items, and even managing traffic control.
