Chattanooga’s 25-year-old skate park is finally getting the upgrade skaters have long been waiting for.
After years of planning and public input, the City Council has approved a $4.4 million renovation project to transform the aging park into a multi-use concrete facility designed for skateboarders, roller skaters, and BMX riders alike.
“The community has been asking for a new multi-modal skate park for a long time,” said Brian Smith with Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors. “Not only can skateboarders use it, but it’s also for roller skates and BMX bikes, and it’s something the city has been working on for a while.”
The current park, built more than two decades ago, has outlived its lifespan. The ramps, made from wood frames and skate light, were only expected to last about 10 to 15 years.
