(WHTM) -- Pennsylvania is considered a purple state, but last night's election results were blue.

Well-funded and well-known Democrats won their races, so did poorly-funded and lesser-known ones. In 2025, an "R" after some candidates' names stood for real trouble.

"As the saying goes, sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug," said Chris Nicholas, a Republican consultant who was writing his PA Political Digest one day after voters saw red and voted blue.

In offices big and small, even in GOP strongholds, Republicans got squashed.

"I texted a friend of mine in Cumberland County," Nicholas said. "Yesterday was a good day to be an unopposed Republican because otherwise you were in trouble."
