CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A vehicle struck the side of a police cruiser with a Cheviot officer and a K-9 inside, sending the officer to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Hamilton County dispatchers.

The K-9 was not hurt, they confirmed.

It happened at the intersection of Werk Road and Glenmore Road in Westwood at 12:40 a.m. Friday.

An officer was driving back to Cheviot after assisting on a call for service when his patrol cruiser was struck by another vehicle, according to dispatchers.

One person was detained at the scene while the officer was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, they confirm.

The crash remains under investigation, Cincinnati police said early Friday.
