Virginia’s bid for a program-record eighth consecutive victory fell short Saturday night at Scott Stadium, as the Cavaliers dropped a 16-9 decision to ACC rival Wake Forest. The loss came before an ESPN audience and a season-high home crowd of 55,568.

Virginia lost starting quarterback Chandler Morris to a head injury in the second quarter and failed to score a touchdown against a Wake Forest defense that forced three turnovers. The Cavaliers’ offense managed only three field goals by Will Bettridge, while the Demon Deacons’ only touchdown came on an 88-yard punt return late in the first half.
