A man accused of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old boy at a Scottish campsite has died in custody.
John Bell, 44, died at HMP Inverness on Saturday, November 8. He was being held on remand at the prison after he was charged with molesting the child at the campsite near Loch Ness in July this year.
A major investigation was launched by police at the time after the child was allegedly approached within his tent.
The alleged attack took place while the boy's parents camped nearby. The boy's father woke up after hearing his son's distress and reported seeing someone flee the scene.
Bell, of Grangemouth, was traced and charged in September. When he appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court he made no plea.
The case was committed for further examination while Bell was remanded in custody
