At 4:13 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service released a special weather statement until 8:30 a.m. for Northwest Suffolk, Northeast Suffolk, Southwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Northern Nassau and Southern Nassau.

"Patchy dense fog has developed across Long Island, with visibility 1/4 mile or less in spots. The fog should persist until about 8 a.m. Motorists encountering fog early this morning should take extra caution. Use low beam headlights or fog lamps, and allow extra braking distance between other vehicles," describes the weather service.
