The National Weather Service released a special weather statement at 4:13 a.m. on Sunday until 8:30 a.m. for Suffolk and Nassau counties.
"Patchy dense fog has developed across Long Island, with visibility 1/4 mile or less in spots. The fog should persist until about 8 a.m. Motorists encountering fog early this morning should take extra caution. Use low beam headlights or fog lamps, and allow extra braking distance between other vehicles," says the weather service.
