UK households have been warned to be on the lookout for fake Winter Fuel Payment text messages.
The tech experts at TelephoneSystems.Cloud are urging homeowners to be wary of fake messages claiming to be from the Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC.
Fake Winter Fuel Payment messages were first circulating in August with the elderly being the prime targets.
The scam messages invited recipients to apply for a new Winter Fuel Payment where they are then instructed to handover personal information and bank details.
The tech experts are advising Brits to be on the lookout for the scam to recirculate and to make any elderly friends, family members or neighbours aware of the messages.
