LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -On Monday, the U.S. Marine Corps celebrated 250 years of service.
The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs held an event in Lansing to honor the milestone.
The U.S. Marine Corps was established back in 1775 in Philadelphia. To celebrate, the agency held a cake-cutting ceremony.
It’s a symbolic renewal to the Marines’ commitment to the Corps.
“The Marine Corps, the United States Navy, and the United States Army all hit their 250th birthday this year because that’s when they all were organized and started to fight the American Revolution,” said Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency Director Brian Love.
“And like the Marine Corps, we all have been fighting and protecting this nation ever since for 250 years.”
