Sharpsburg is getting its first local grocery store in decades.
Harvest on Main Community Market is bringing fresh food to the former Brother Tom’s Bakery early next year. The project is an extension of Second Harvest, a nonprofit thrift store around the corner from the incoming market.
“Sharpsburg has been a food desert for decades,” said Bonnie DeMotte, executive director at Second Harvest. “A space became available that we purchased at 808 Main St. to turn it into a fresh food market, a neighborhood corner store that we hope will become like a cornerstone in the community.”
Grocery staples will be available, Ms. DeMotte said, but the focus will also be on fresh food cooked by an in-store chef.
