KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Mothers in Charge handed out gift cards to 50 families who have lost loved ones to gun violence as the holiday season approaches.

The organization’s gift card giveaway comes as Kansas City faces a deadly year, with 125 people killed by violence, according to KCPD.

Mothers in Charge, a group dedicated to supporting victims’ families, recognizes the holidays are particularly difficult for grieving families facing empty chairs at dinner tables. Many families struggle to cook holiday meals, and sometimes even standing in the kitchen brings back painful memories.

“They were just in awe. They cried on the phone, and they just told us how much they appreciate us still thinking about them. So, they are excited to come in and just get that hug from them,” said Rosilyn T
