SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. —
San Juan County Commissioner Terri Fortner expressed concern over the potential move of licensing rights from Sunray Park & Casino to Clovis for a new racetrack.
She said that the county has leased the facility since 1997. The community is worried about the impact on local jobs, with Fortner stating, "There's 125 jobs that are at risk if and when the racino leaves our county."
County Manager Mike Stark mentioned that if the New Mexico Racing Commission grants another license, San Juan County could continue operating the racetrack. However, Racing Commission officials, including Executive Director Ismael Trejo, acknowledge the complexity of the situation.
