A body has been discovered in the ongoing search for Matthias Beutin, a German tourist who went missing on the Isle of Skye. The 57-year-old was last seen at Blaven car park, near Loch Slapin, at approximately 11.30am on Thursday, October 9. He had intended to climb Bla Bheinn but had not contacted his family since that day. Following his disappearance, a multi-agency search operation was initiated to locate Beutin. Tragically, over a month later, police confirmed that a body was found near Coire Dubh, Blaven, at around 2.15pm on Saturday, November 8. The circumstances surrounding the death are currently being treated as "unexplained," although authorities do not believe it to be suspicious. A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated, "Around 2.15pm on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the body of a man was found near Coire Dubh, Blaven, on the Isle of Skye. Formal identification has taken place and the family of Matthias Beutin, 57, who was reported missing on Thursday, October 9, have been informed." The spokesperson added, "The death is being treated as unexplained but not believed to be suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course." In the weeks following Beutin's disappearance, the Skye Mountain Rescue Team, along with various other agencies, conducted extensive searches in challenging conditions. They were supported by a search and rescue dog team and a coastguard helicopter. In a Facebook post, the Skye Mountain Rescue Team shared updates on their efforts, stating, "After another full day of searching there’s still no sign of Matthias. Teams were out again today - including Search & Rescue Dog Association (Scotland), Kintail Mountain Rescue, and Royal Air Force Mountain Rescue Service - covering more ground in challenging terrain and poor visibility." The team also appealed for public assistance, asking anyone who may have been in the area on the day of Beutin's disappearance to come forward with any information, dash-cam footage, or photographs that could aid the investigation. The search for Matthias Beutin has drawn attention to the risks associated with mountain climbing and the importance of safety measures when exploring remote areas.
