NEWNAN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An investigation has begun after an officer was involved in a shooting in Newnan Saturday morning, according to police.

Emergency units responded to the shooting in the parking lot of the Newnan Crossing shopping center on 997 Bullsboro Drive just after 8:30 a.m.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Sonny Francis Conto, 29, was standing on the steps of a semi-truck and yelling at the driver.

Police tried to get Conto down from the steps, when he called for his dog and tried to grab an officer’s weapon. Another officer shot Conto in the arm.

He was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries.
