NEW ALBANY, Ohio — More than 1,000 employees working at the Meta data center in New Albany were sent home Monday morning because of a security incident.
According to a New Albany spokesperson, a contractor working for the a construction company on the Meta campus was in the process of being terminated when security saw a gun in the employee’s bag.
The employee left the site in a vehicle and is not believed to still be in the area. No injuries were reported.
Turner Construction, the company overseeing the construction on the campus, confirmed the incident in a statement. The company said the individual had recently been released from employment for unexcused absences and returned to the site Monday morning, where he made threats toward a supervisor.
