ZEELAND, MI — The Zeeland City Council on Monday, Nov. 17, approved an amendment overturning a decades-long ban on Sunday alcohol sales in the city.
The amendment, which passed last night in a 6-1 vote, allows on- and off-premises license holders to serve alcohol from noon on Sundays to 2 a.m. on Mondays.
The city council on Monday also unanimously approved an ordinance amendment allowing alcohol consumption in city parks that fall within the city’s social district.
The parks included within the social district are the Elm Street Park at 21 S. Elm St. and Cherry and Vande Luyster Square at the intersection of Central and Church streets. The social district is still not permitted on Sundays, and alcohol remains prohibited in the splash pad, City Marketing Director Abby DeRoo said.
