Five new cases of measles have been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases in the Upstate outbreak to 49 so far, the state Department of Public Health reported Nov. 18.
The new cases bring the statewide total this year to 52.
According to DPH, two of the five new cases are household members of known cases who were in quarantine. The other three cases stem from as-yet-unknown sources of transmission. Nearly all the Upstate cases have been in Spartanburg County.
DPH’s initial investigation of contacts for the new cases determined potential exposures in public settings. The direct contacts and impacted facilities are being notified.
