Despite only containing a snippet of the M60 and its own small motorway in the M67, Tameside is home to the third-highest total of speed cameras in Greater Manchester.

The borough’s total of 28 is only behind Stockport , on 30, and Manchester, with 57.

More than 250 traffic cameras have been installed in Greater Manchester, and there are hundreds more ‘mobile locations’ where the police can enforce the limits temporarily.

Tameside, where an eastern leg of the M60 runs, connecting up with the M67 to the Peak District, does however have a long stretch of arterial road, the A57.

That could explain why it has the number of speed cameras it does — some of which also monitor red traffic lights.
