GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Almost 700 shoe boxes packed with gifts were collected on the first day of Operation Christmas Child at Parkers Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, which serves as just one drop-off spot across the state.
Operation Christmas Child is an effort by Samaritan’s Purse to provide gifts to children in need in over 150 countries. The program accepts donations in the form of an unusual package to bring Christmas cheer to children in other countries.
“I think it’s one of the best things you can do this time of year. For us, we look at sharing these shoe boxes as sharing Christ with kids all over the world,” said Gene Williams, senior pastor at Parkers Chapel.
People can choose to make their box for a boy or a girl and select the age range of the child receiving it.
