GREENVILLE, S.C. —
The Roper Mountain star, an iconic piece of the Greenville skyline, is about to get an upgrade.
The star will be removed on Thursday to undergo repairs and technological upgrades.
First installed in 1995 as a birthday gift to Buck Mickel from his family, the Roper Mountain star has become a cherished symbol of the season.
The Roper Mountain Science Center is having a fundraising campaign to raise the $130,000 needed to fully restore the star’s structure, wiring, and lighting system.
