ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The state trial to oust Alfred Montgomery from the St. Louis City Sheriff’s Office began Wednesday morning with witness testimony after being delayed on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old sheriff entered the courtroom just after 9 a.m., flanked by two U.S. Marshals, with shackles around his ankles and handcuffs attaching his left hand loosely to his waist. He spoke a quiet good morning to the judge. He only sometimes whispered and wrote notes to his attorneys during the morning’s proceedings.

It has been weeks since Montgomery has been seen, as he was taken into the custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service back in October for a federal criminal case.
