LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Business owners near the UPS plane crash site are working to keep their operations running as officials repair a damaged gas pipeline on Grade Lane that could keep the area closed for weeks or months.
Phillip Bills witnessed the crash two weeks ago and said the experience continues to affect him.
“It was just a huge explosion,” he remembered. “All I could see was just a wall of fire. At that point, I was like, I’m dead.”
While Bills escaped physically unharmed, he said the emotional impact remains.
“After seeing what I’ve seen, you know, when’s the next time an airplane’s going to fall out of the sky?” he said. “So I’m real attentive, I guess you could say, about airplanes flying over or anything like that.”
Bills said he tries to focus on his work at Quantum
