OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A fraud alert tonight about a scheme through social media that may cost a senior citizen couple more than money. They’ve been targeted by three types of scams all at once. So they’re afraid to be identified.
The medals show how Joe served his country, but wife Marie wanted to be a hero to her veteran husband by adding to their retirement nest egg.
“I thought this would be a good way for us to have a little comfort as we grow a little bit older.”
So without telling her husband, Marie got entangled in a Facebook offer of $15,000 if she sent a fee.
“I sent the $200, but then it kept snowballing.”
Into an avalanche of money cards the scammer demanded.
“$25-$500. You’ve got to have at least 75 of these gift cards, and when you took a picture of that number on the back
