DALLAS COUNTY, Texas — When Kashena Manuel’s shock turned to disbelief, the soon-to-be grandmother began recording what she believed would be her only truth. She recorded her daughter, Kiara, as she said she was in labor at Dallas Regional Medical Center in Mesquite.

“I had to film, and I showed the world what we went through, what my daughter went through, what my grandson went through just to get here,” Manuel said. “It was the video that they believed.”

On the night of Nov. 10, Manuel said her daughter’s water broke while at home. She said they called ahead to the hospital and took a picture in the car as they were on their way. A time stamp showed that the picture was taken at 11:43 p.m.

Manuel said Kiara’s contractions were coming faster.
