Federal authorities have arrested three men over alleged threats towards members of parliament and public office holders.

Among those taken into custody is National Socialist Network member Joel Davis, who was charged by the AFP’s National Security Investigation team.

Police allege he used a carriage service to encourage hate towards a federal MP.

The Australian Federal Police confirmed the arrests on Friday, revealing two MPs and one senior office holder were targeted in the alleged offences.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Matthew Gale said the cases highlighted a disturbing spike in politically motivated threats.

“Threats against federal parliamentarians is a significant issue for us,” he said.
