Health officials in Maryland on Friday reported the first cold-related deaths of the winter weather season.
The Maryland Department of Health said the deceased was a man between the age of 30 and 40 in Frederick County.
“To prevent the onset of cold-related illness, including frostbite, Marylanders should avoid exposure to cold weather, both by limiting time outside and by wearing several layers of lightweight, insulated clothing,” MDEH said in a statement. “Insulate toes, fingers, ears, cheeks, and the tip of the nose.”
Marylanders in need of warming centers are encouraged to contact their local health department or call 2-1-1.
