A former Greater Manchester local election candidate murdered his ex-wife at their son's graveside after lying in wait for her at a cemetery. A judge has passed a life sentence on Martin Suter, 68, ordering that he must serve a minimum of more than 27 years behind bars.
Suter stabbed his ex-wife, Ann Blackwood, to death in Hampshire on what would have been the 36th birthday of their son, Christopher. A court heard he lay in wait for her for five hours then stabbed her with a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors she had brought with her to cut flowers she planned to put on the grave.
The couple previously lived in Stockport and divorced in 2004. Suter was previously a member of the Green Party. He stood for the party as a local election candidate in the former East Bramh
