To my non-surprise, the tab for this necessary project has almost doubled with a further extended timeline (“ Key Bridge: Rising costs, wrong assumptions led rebuild cost to balloon, MDTA says ,” Nov. 18). Having spent much of my career in the financial end of the construction materials business, I had a lot of exposure to the variables inherent in efforts of this magnitude.
When the timeline and costs were first announced, my reaction was that Gov. Wes Moore was using “back of a napkin” numbers. I don’t say that out of cynicism, but simply I have seen enough cost overruns of public work projects that I knew those numbers would not hold due to many unforeseen variables.
Given that the Harbor Tunnel toll plaza is still in place, why has the state not eliminated it to facilitate the move
