YORK — York County implemented a ban this week on polystyrene packaging for food vendors to align with a statewide ban that will fully take effect in July.
The county’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the policy on Tuesday. The move follows a state mandate first passed in 2021 prohibiting the use of single-use expanded polystyrene (EPS) containers, more commonly known by the brand Styrofoam. Restaurants with 20 or more locations across the commonwealth had to comply by July 1 of this year, while smaller businesses have until next July to phase out the foam takeout boxes and cups.
