STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An apparent water main issue caused the closure of Hylan Boulevard in Huguenot on Friday afternoon.

Flooding was visible at Hylan and Wendy Drive.

Water could be seen spewing out from manhole covers and sewer grates at that location.

Workers roped off Hylan to traffic in both directions and cars were detoured onto side streets.

According to an alert issued by the MTA, the S78 bus is being detoured as a result.

Traffic was building up in the area as of 1:55 p.m.

Borough President Vito Fossella was on the scene to survey the situation.

This is a breaking news story. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
