CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WWBT/WMC) - Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. received his sentence on Friday for shooting and killing three University of Virginia football players more than three years ago.

A former Mid-South football player was one of the three killed on campus.

After less than an hour on deliberations, Judge Cheryl Higgins sentenced Jones to life in prison for three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated malicious wounding. He also faces a total of 23 years for felony gun charges.

“No amount of time on earth can heal the pain or get those lives back. Just a little bit of peace knowing the man that committed those crimes won’t be hurting anyone else,” shooting survivor Mike Hollins said after the decision was made.
