PARMA, Ohio — St. Edward dominated Mentor 27-7 on Friday to capture its fifth consecutive Division I, Region 1 championship. Eagles running back Brandon White became the program’s all-time leading rusher in the process.
White carried 30 times for 178 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles (11-2) handed Mentor (12-1) its first loss of the season. The senior scored on runs of 13, 19 and 4 yards to pace St. Edward’s offense throughout the contest.
St. Edward controlled the game from the opening kickoff, possessing the ball for more than half of the first quarter before White capped the drive with a 13-yard touchdown run. The Eagles extended their lead to 14-0 before halftime on White’s second score with 58 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
