‘OH how the mighty have fallen” is a biblical lament by David after hearing of the death of his rivals, King Saul and his friend Jonathan, in battle. These days it can refer to the remarkable falling from grace of a number of prominent political figures who at points in their careers were seen to be invincible.

Here in Canada, Conservative Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre had a lock on victory in the last federal election, only to lose to the incumbent Liberals. Today Poilievre has an unfavourable rate of 60 per cent, the worst recorded since he took over the leadership. For some reason he is stubbornly sticking to his angry-man style.
