SUMMIT TWP., MI – A 74-year-old man accused of stabbing and injuring another man during an argument has been sent to prison.
Jackson County Circuit Judge John McBain sentenced Wilbur Heard to serve two years and five months to 15 years in prison, Wednesday, Nov. 19, court records show.
Heard was originally charged with attempted murder but later pleaded no contest to the lesser charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as one for sentencing purposes.
Assault with intent to do great bodily harm is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Heard was given an enhanced sentence as he was listed as a habitual offender.
