JACKSON, MI – Major improvements are coming to a Jackson park.

The Jackson City Council unanimously approved last week a $505,800 project to install a new playground at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1107 Adrian St.

The contract with Sinclair Recreation of Holland is fully funded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Spark Grant program . The Spark Grant provides the opportunity to address the aging playground.

The current playground structure is about 25 years old. Along with Loomis Park on Ganson Street, it is one of Jackson’s most-used parks, said Kelli Hoover, Jackson’s director of parks, recreation and grounds.
