Around 10 million pensioners could be slapped with tax on their income by 2030 if Rachel Reeves extends the the freeze on income tax thresholds for another two years, new research has alleged.

As it currently stands, most Brits can earn £12,570 every tax year, before income tax becomes a factor.

This sum of money is called a personal allowance, and at the moment it has been frozen at this level since the 2021/2022 financial year.

Ms Reeves currently has this freeze set until the 2028/29 tax year, but reports of late have speculated the Chancellor could extend it by another two years, to the end of the decade.
