CHICOPEE — Chicken Queen, a family business that was long a staple in the city, will close next month.

The restaurant — owned by the Iwanicki family in Chicopee since 1969 — is known for its specialty rotisserie roasted chicken.

Owner Walter S. Iwanicki confirmed the restaurant would be closing because of his retirement. He declined to comment further.

The business opened in 1969 on Dewey Road and stayed in the family throughout the years.

Later success spurred a second location on Westover Road, where it has been since the 1990s.
