Amarillo Fire Marshal investigating cause of house fire on Florida Street

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire on N. Florida Street near N.W. 5th Ave. Saturday night.

The Amarillo Fire Department says crews arrvied around 8:10 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the home.

While fighting the fire inside the home, officials say a firefighter fell into a burned-out section of the kitchen floor. This revealed hidden fire conditions under the home.

Crews quickly exited the home and worked on containing the fire from the outside.

A second crew then entered the home and located a staircase leading to the basement, where the fire was put out.

The fire was contained by around 11 p.m.

According to the fire department, there was no one inside the home. No civilian injuries were reported.
