Thanksgiving came early for some families in Kenner.

Volunteers from Little Zion Baptist Church and Don D'aunoy's law firm teamed up to give away more than 150 free turkeys to families in need Monday. Advertisement

Prior to the giveaway, cars lined up several blocks down the street, emphasizing the need in the community. Within just 30 minutes, all the donations were given away.

"A lot of people don't have jobs, they've been laid off because of what's going on," said Glenda Primus, a volunteer at the giveaway.

Job loss paired with inflation and people still trying to recover from a government shutdown has put some in a tight spot this holiday season, leaving community members to fill the gaps.
