MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - The first phase of the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge construction project will not be finished until next month.
That’s according to IDOT Engineer Ben Wills.
Willis said the I-24 bridge will not be opening in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
He said this could cause major backups this week, and travelers should expect delays.
The first phase was supposed to be completed in mid-October, but delays pushed the project back several weeks.

According to Willis, some more structural steel work needs to be done, and fabrication delays also played a part.
Both lanes will not reopen to traffic until mid-December.
