An Ipswich man was given a lift back to his car by a police officer – and then arrested for drug driving and driving without insurance.
Police spotted David Burnett-Garrard walking through Tattingstone in the early hours of April 11.
The 35-year-old had run out of fuel while driving on the A137 and had gone on foot to fill up a jerry can at a nearby fuel station.
The officer was concerned that Burnett-Garrard was walking along a dark, 60mph stretch of road wearing dark clothing, and offered to drive him back to his car.
During the journey, the officer became suspicious and asked Burnett-Garrard to take a roadside drug test.
This showed that there were 5.2 microgrammes of THC, the breakdown product of cannabis, in Burnett-Garrard’s bloodstream. The legal limit for driving is two microg
