CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - An Emporia man faces two charges in a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened early Saturday on southbound Interstate 95.

Two drivers had exited their cars for unknown reasons and were standing outside of their vehicles, near the driver’s side doors and closest to the center lane, when they were struck by a vehicle at 2:24 a.m.

Police say the suspect’s vehicle also struck the open driver’s door of one of the vehicles before fleeing the scene.

One of the drivers - Anthony Lee Crawford Jr., 27, of Chesterfield - was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

State police say Dangelo D. Layton, 26, of Emporia, was arrested on Sunday and charged with hit and run and reckless driving.
