A preliminary hearing for a Durham, Mo., man accused of vehicle theft and attempted arson has been rescheduled for Feb. 24, 2026.

Michael Roy Johnson, 61, faces charges of driving under the influence, attempted arson, criminal deprivation of a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property. He was also cited for driving while suspended, no registration and no proof of insurance.

According to the complaint, Johnson, while intoxicated, stole a Nissan Armada and allegedly lit a piece of paper on fire before tossing it into the backseat, attempting to ignite the vehicle. The fire did not catch, and the SUV was not damaged.

Prosecutors also allege Johnson set fire to corn, causing nearly $1,000 in damage.

Johnson was arrested Sept. 13 and booked into the Lyon County Jail on a $2,500 bond. He
