As families came by to pick up their kids from Hunter Elementary on Tuesday the American Legion Post 11 was there handing out Thanksgiving meal boxes with all the fixings to make the holiday special.
“Holidays are especially tough on some, the mission of the Legion is to provide help and support for veterans and their families,” Post 11 Commander Joe Collier said.
In collaboration with Pagan’s Motorcycle Club the Legion put together 60 boxes each with a turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, pumpkin pie ingredients and rolls. They also had extra birds and sweets to take.
In Hunter alone there are 19 military-connected families, Collier said, and beyond helping military and veterans, the Legion wants to help the greater Fairbanks community.
