HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - While many families throughout the nation struggle with food insecurity, many students may also be wondering where their next meal will come from.

Students at Perry County Central High School are asking for food and snacks to take home as food insecurity affects families throughout Eastern Kentucky.

Samantha Turner, the family resource and youth services director at PCCHS, said food insecurity is an issue at the school. Some students regularly ask if food and snacks are available to take home.

“A big thing in education is the students have to be taken care of outside of the classroom and to be able to have a resource center that the door is always open that they can come by and they know if I’m in here or if I’m not, they know where to go to,” Turner said. “If they
