HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) -Students and teachers at Perry County Central High School are preparing for their annual Angel Tree project, which helps students give and receive during the holiday season.

This year, officials with the school say more than 170 students are sponsored through the initiative. The goal is to ensure all “angels,” or students in need, receive a coat, an outfit, a pair of shoes and a couple of desired items.

Each sports team at the school is also sponsoring an angel, like the PCCHS softball team.

“There’s a little boy that we’re giving back to. He wants some boots, some clothes, some hunting gear. I mean, it’s pretty good to just be able to give back to him,” said sophomore Jacklynn Amis, a student athlete at PCCHS.

Amis said the experience provides personal satisfaction
